Pat "Big Momma" Edwards Smith Pat "Big Momma"Edwards Smith,age 67,of Marion,passed away Monday,Dec. 18,2006 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. A native to Mitchell County,she was born Oct. 12,1939 and was a daughter of the late Fred W. Edwards and Jessie Mae Hobsin Ledford of Bakersville.Pat was a faithful member of Faith Missionary Baptist Chruch.She was a devoted and loving homemaker,wife,mother,grand mother,and great-grand mother.Left to cherish Pat's memory in addition to her mother,are her husband, Eddie J."chief"Smith,of the home ;three children,Ben Smith and wife Gail,Judy Davis and husband Marvin,and Tammy Lowery,all of Marion;two brothers,Jim Ledford of Bakersville and Bob Edwards of Shelby;5 grand children,Loretta,Brian,Mindy,Wendy,and Josh;and 6 great-grand children Austin,Layla,Cadie,Emanie,Jordan,and Aden;and 1 step great-grand child Kennedy.

Quiet place of refuge

from trouble I am safe

nothing there can harm me

my cry brings his embrace

 

He lifts me to his vantage point

such beauty I can see

My prayers arising to his hearing

his grace will carry me

 

Though I walk through valleys deep

and places filled with sorrow

each visit to that secret place

gives hope for each tomorrow

 

So I will go there often

And linger there to hear

his footsteps in the garden

As my prayer brings him near
